first day of my life

This is kinda behind, but oh well I'll post it anyway. I started my program Bachelor of Applied Arts Illustration at Sheridan two weeks ago, and so far it's been a blast. I really like and more likely to thrive in a really positive and creative environment, and that's what school provides.

Assignments started off pretty mundane and basic, but I know for sure it'll just get even more challenging and complex. I am excited and loving it so far!
I also made a group on facebook called "365 days of Moleskine" I was gonna keep up drawing until both my scanner and camera stopped working for me (well actually, I just can't find my sd card for my camera, crap!)

Now I'm just liking this busy life and trying to find a seasonal/part-time job. You just gotta love uncertainty and sacrifices being a student again!

book update

hey all. I'm trying to update more often but it's gotten hard lately due to work, errands and everything else in between. this won't be an art update sadly, but I did pick up a pretty sweet book at chapters on sunday.

It's called "Darwin's Bastards" and it's basically a collection of stories by different canadian writers about the possibility of a dystopian future. Some of these stories are just out of this world!! though I'm really enjoying the book so far. I mean come on, who doesn't enjoy dark humour and satires once in a while, right? best part is, Yann Martel and Douglas Coupland also contributed stories here. favoritism indeed on my part!

In other news, I have put a hold on the Stan Lee paintings for now, since I don't even know if I'm going. My friend Mike, of whom was also doing a piece for fanexpo, told me the grave news that the Ultimate Stan Lee Package is all sold out (this pretty much gives you lots of goodies, a seat at his presentation, a rare collectible, a picture with Stan Lee and a chance for him to autograph any items you want etc.) leave it to me to procrastinate on getting tickets. crap. I guess we'll see what happens..

mini update

sorry for the lack of updates guys! I know, I'm a terrible blogger..

mini-updates in point form:

- moved out of my place into a bigger house with family
- bigger house > smaller room = fail! but still nice

uh, ok that's about it haha. when I get my art supplies and drafting table set up, I'll be pumping out new work. My friend Aya really inspired me to create my next piece, and I've got all the ideas and roughs for it. I'll post the final soon, I promise!

Rough Justice.

the weekend's going pretty good. it was tgif, payday week, I was satisfied with my portfolio score, so that's that. the next step now is to do the osap thing, sign up for goodlife and save up for my imac or macbook pro (still on the fence on that)

went to chapters yesterday and went on a reading binge. this is usually what my saturday night consist of, shopping for new reads and enjoying the nice weather, but I decided to check out some new additions to the graphic novels section. Little did I know, I would find nothing short of awesome:

that's Alex Ross' new sketchbook release this year. Little under 300 pages, it shows a lot of his process work, inkings and finals done in colour. Needless to say, it rekindled my interest again in comic book art! I love that it's almost technical because you DO need to know a lot about anatomy and composition. I wish I had gotten it, but I thought it would be like 40-50. it's 24.95 CDN online!

Instead, I picked up a watercolour tutorial book and leafing over Fables novels (with delicious cover art done by James Jean) I can't wait to get started and get some full work done!

78/100.

after countless months of indecision, numerous amount of hard work, a plethora of self-doubt.. I got my results today. I got into Illustration.

I am still the dreamer, but hand in hand with the dream.

excitement commence!

Stan Lee is coming to FanExpo in August!!!

apart from that, life is pretty routine for me. results from portfolio comes out on thursday morning so that's pretty much the only thing I look forward to/get over with.

oh right, I forgot. on good friday, I'm going to Mt. Marmora to do the 14 stations of the cross with my family and a bunch of others.

It's sorta like one big picnic in the mountains for religious reasons. yes, we go every year.

brings me back to the first time we went (eh jen? hahaha)
